The Free plan

Free POS software for one shop: what PointLit's Free plan includes

Yes, a single shop can run on free POS software. PointLit's Starter plan, the Free plan, runs one shop's till, shifts, receipts and stock for the owner plus one staff login, with up to 100 active products and the last 31 days of sales on screen. Registration for new shops is closed for now; when it opens, new businesses start with a 14-day free trial of Chain, no card needed.

What does the Free plan include?

Starter is the Free plan. It has no monthly price and no end date, and it is the same PointLit as the paid plans: the same till, the same shifts and blind close count, the same stock ledger, in Arabic and English. What changes between plans is how much of it you can use. These are the Free plan's limits today; the pricing page shows every plan side by side.

Which shops is the Free plan right for?

The Free plan fits one shop with no separate stock room, run by the owner with at most one other person signing in, and a range of up to 100 products. Because a product's sizes and colours count once, a clothing or shoe shop with 80 models in many sizes is still inside the limit.

It also fits a shop that wants to try a proper till before paying for anything: the cashier rings sales, takes cash or card, prints receipts and closes the shift with a counted drawer, and the owner reads the Day report and Stock on hand at night. If the internet drops during a shift, the till keeps selling offline on the Free plan as on every other.

What does a shop give up on the Free plan?

  • Sales older than 31 days are hidden from the screens and reports. They are kept, and they appear again when you upgrade.
  • Only the four core reports: the Day report, the Z report, the Sales summary and Stock on hand. Reports such as Stock ageing, Cash variances and Sales by product come with Counter.
  • No Excel or CSV files of reports, and no report emails on a schedule. Printing a report, or saving it as a PDF, still works.
  • No customer accounts (selling on credit and statements) and no loyalty programme.
  • No quotations, sales orders, deposits or deliveries.
  • No partner API, so an online store cannot send its sales to PointLit.
  • Receipts, PDFs and share pages carry a small "Powered by PointLit" line.

When should a shop move to Counter or Chain?

Move up when the shop outgrows a limit, not before. The prices of each plan are on the pricing page, in Egyptian pounds with VAT included for shops in Egypt.

How does the 14-day trial of Chain work?

When registration opens, every new business starts with everything in Chain for 14 days, with no card. Use it to set up your products, print your labels and run real shifts with the full set of reports.

When the trial ends you have 7 more days, with everything still working, to choose a paid plan on the Plan and billing page. If you choose nothing, the business moves to the Free plan and nothing is deleted. If it has more than the Free plan allows, the owner chooses which shop, staff login and price list stay active; the others are paused, not deleted, and come back with an upgrade. Products you already have stay on sale, but adding a new one is refused until you archive one or upgrade. Each business gets one trial.

What happens when a shop reaches a limit?

  • Selling at the till never stops because of a limit, and a sale the till queued while offline is always accepted.
  • Adding one more product, collection, price list, staff login or shop than the plan allows is refused, with a message saying which limit was reached.
  • Older sales are hidden, not deleted, and appear again after an upgrade.
  • Nothing you have already entered is deleted by a plan change.

What should you check before choosing any free POS?

  • Which limit ends the free use: products, staff, branches or days of sales history, and what happens to your data when you reach it.
  • Whether the till keeps selling when the internet drops, and on which plan.
  • Whether it prints Arabic receipts on your printer, and prices in Egyptian pounds with VAT at 14%.
  • Whether your receipts carry the vendor's name, and how big it is.
  • How you take your data out, and on which plan.
  • What the next plan costs, and whether that price is published or only given on request.

How do you start on PointLit's Free plan?

  1. Request early access: registration for new shops is closed for now, and we will tell you when it opens. A business registered then starts on the 14-day trial of Chain, with no card.
  2. Add your products, or set up a Barcode rule so new products get a barcode automatically, and print your labels.
  3. In Tax rules, add VAT at 14%, included in the price or added on top.
  4. Install the PointLit Windows app on the counter computer for the receipt printer and the cash drawer, or use PointLit in a web browser.
  5. Open your first shift with a counted float and start selling.
  6. Before the trial ends, choose a plan on the Plan and billing page, or let the business move to the Free plan.

Questions and answers

Does the Free plan cost anything?
No. Starter, the Free plan, has no monthly price and no end date. Its receipts, PDFs and share pages carry a small "Powered by PointLit" line. You pay only if you move to Counter, Chain or Enterprise, and the current prices are on the pricing page.
Do I need a card to start?
No. The 14-day trial of Chain needs no card, and neither does the Free plan. Paid plans are paid up front through InstaPay, Vodafone Cash or a bank transfer in Egypt; online card payment is not available yet.
How many products can I add on the Free plan?
Up to 100 active products, and a product's sizes and colours count once, so one shirt model in twelve sizes and colours is one product. When you reach the limit, archive a product you no longer sell or move to Counter, which has no product limit.
Can two cashiers use the Free plan?
The Free plan has two staff logins: the owner and one more. A salesperson who only appears in the till's Sold by list does not need a login and is not counted. A second cashier who signs in needs Counter.
Does the Free plan keep selling when the internet drops?
Yes. Selling offline works the same on every plan: if the line drops during a shift, the till keeps ringing cash and card sales, up to 200 on one till, and sends them when the connection returns.
What happens to my data if I stop paying?
The business moves to the Free plan after the 7 days of grace, and nothing is deleted. Sales older than 31 days are hidden until you upgrade, and the owner chooses which shop, staff login and price list stay active; the rest are paused.
