How we count visits
What this website records when you visit it, what it does not record, and for how long.
We count visits to pointlit.com to see how many people visit, where they come from and which pages they read. The counting tool runs on our own server, uses no cookies and stores nothing in your browser. It covers this website only, not the PointLit app that shops use to sell and manage their stock.
What we record about each page you open
When you open a page of this website, the counting tool records:
- The page’s address, without any part after a question mark (?) or a hash sign (#).
- The page’s title and its language, English or Arabic.
- The address of the page that brought you here, if your browser sends it, also without any part after a question mark or a hash sign.
- The date and time.
- Your browser’s name and language, your operating system, the kind of device (for example a laptop or a phone) and your screen size.
- The country, region and city your connection comes from, worked out from your internet (IP) address.
What we record when you use the website
It also records when one of the following happens, but never what you type:
- The early-access form being opened, sent or refused. For a refusal, only the kind of reason is recorded.
- While registration for new shops is open: each step of registering a new shop, and how it ended.
- A click on a link to download the PointLit Windows app.
- A change of currency on the pricing page, and the currency chosen (EGP or USD).
- A click on a Sign in link.
- A change of the website’s language, and the language chosen.
What we do not record
- Your internet (IP) address: the tool uses it when a visit arrives and does not store it.
- What you type into a form: no name, no phone number and no other field.
- Your name, your email address or any account: a visit is never linked to them.
- Recordings: nothing records your screen, your mouse movements or how far you scroll.
Recognising a returning browser
To count how many different people visit, the tool turns your internet (IP) address and your browser’s description of itself (its user agent) into a code. The same browser on the same connection gives the same code until the end of the calendar month, and a new code after that. Neither the address nor the description is stored.
Who receives it and who can see it
Your browser sends the record of a visit only to pointlit.com, and it is kept on our own server. We do not send it to any other company. Only PointLit’s owner can see the counts, after signing in.
How long it is kept
Every night, records of visits older than 13 months are deleted. Our nightly backups are kept for 14 days, so a deleted record can remain in a backup for up to 14 more days. Our web server’s log of requests, which includes each visitor’s internet (IP) address, is kept in a fixed amount of space, at most 5 files of 20 MB. The oldest lines are deleted as new ones arrive, so how long a line stays depends on how busy the site is.
Privacy signals from your browser
If your browser sends a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal, your visits are not counted.
What this website keeps in your browser
This website sets no cookies. It keeps up to three small items in your browser, and none of them is used for counting:
- The colour theme you choose, if you choose one (pl.theme).
- The currency you choose on the pricing page, if you choose one (pl.pricing.currency).
- The page you are on and the one before it, in this tab only and until you close it (pointlit.trail). We receive only the page you came from, and only inside an early-access request you send.
