The floor plan in PointLit: areas, tables and table QR cards

The floor plan is a drawing of each shop's rooms and tables, and the tills show it as a live map of the room.

A manager draws it once per shop, in Manage, Floor plan. Each table has a label, a shape, a size, a number of seats and its own QR code. The drawing never mirrors in Arabic, so the map looks like the room in both languages.

Areas: one for each room or floor

An area is a room or a floor of the shop, such as the terrace or the first floor. Switching on Restaurant and café gives every shop a first area, called Main hall. The area tabs move between areas, and Add area adds another.

Each area's menu offers Name and room size (its name in English and in Arabic, and the room's width and depth in centimetres), Reorder areas (the order the tills show them in) and Retire area.

Draw the room and place the tables

  1. In Manage, open Floor plan, and choose the shop if you manage more than one.
  2. If the room is not a plain rectangle, draw its Room outline: click each corner, then click the first corner again to close it. Backspace removes the last corner and Esc cancels. Tables must stay inside the outline.
  3. Press Add table and pick a piece: Square for 2, Square for 4, Round for 2, Round for 4, Rectangle for 6 or Booth for 4. Drag it into place; it snaps to the grid.
  4. To place a whole row at once, open Starters, pick a row, set How many and Number from, and press Place row. One Ctrl+Z takes the whole row away.
  5. Add Decor so staff recognise the room: a pillar, the bar counter, stairs, a window, a door or a marked area.
  6. Press Save (Ctrl+S). Undo, Redo and Discard work until you save.

A table's details

  • Label, in English and in Arabic. Two tables in one shop cannot have the same label.
  • Shape and size: Rectangle, Round or Booth, as width × depth in centimetres. Drag the handles, or type the size; a table turned at an angle is resized by typing.
  • Rotation, in steps of 45°.
  • Seats: PointLit suggests a number from the size, for example 6 for a 120 × 80 cm rectangle, and Use 6 takes it. The suggestion never changes your number by itself. Above 24 seats the map shows the number instead of chair dots.
  • Party size: the smallest and the largest party the table suits.
  • Duplicate (Ctrl+D) copies the selected table.

The list view, and phones

Show as List puts an area's tables in a table you edit row by row: the order, the label, the Arabic label, the shape, the size, the seats, the party and the QR code, with a small map that lights up the table you are on. It is the easier way on a tablet.

On a phone the floor plan is view only: you can change a table's label, size, party and QR card there, but tables are moved on a tablet or a computer.

Retiring a table or an area

Retire takes a table off the map. Its history is kept, not deleted, and its label can be used again; the list view's Retired group brings it back. Retiring an area takes its tables off with it. A table or an area that has an open check stays on the plan until that check is paid or moved.

Print the table QR cards

  1. Every table gets its QR code when the plan is first saved with it.
  2. Press Print QR cards for many tables, or select one table and use QR code, then Print card.
  3. Under Which tables, choose All tables, This area or Selected table.
  4. Under Layout, choose A4 sheet of six (cut along the dashed lines) or the A6 table tent, one for each table, folded in the middle so it stands on the table.
  5. Press Print… and print at 100% (actual size) on card or plain paper, or press Download SVG to send the cards to a print shop.
