Recipes and modifiers: setting up a product recipe in PointLit
A recipe in PointLit lists what a product is made of, and each component is required, optional or a modifier.
Selling the product takes its components from stock instead of the product itself. Required components are always used up; optional extras and modifiers only when the cashier ticks them at the till, and only a modifier changes the price.
What a product recipe is
Each row is a Component (another product with its own stock, such as a box) with a Qty, a Unit and a Wastage %. Wastage % covers what is lost: 10 on a Qty of 2 takes 2.2.
Required, Optional and Modifier
- Required: neither box under Options is ticked. It is used up every time the product is sold.
- Optional: an extra the cashier can tick at the till, used up only when ticked, never charged and not recorded on the bill.
- Modifier: the same, but it can carry a Price delta, plus or minus, added to the line for each unit before tax. It is recorded on the bill by name.

Set up a recipe, step by step
- Each component must first be a product in Products.
- In Products, press Recipe among the product's actions.
- For a product with more than one variant, choose under Recipe for: Whole product, or one variant, whose own recipe replaces the whole product's.
- Press Add component, pick the component and type its Qty. The Unit starts at the component's own unit. Add a Wastage % if some is lost.
- Under Options, tick Optional or Modifier for an extra. With Modifier, type the Price delta, such as 25, or a negative amount.
- Press Save. Every row needs a component and a unit.

Example: a gift box in a clothing shop
The shop sells a Gift box at EGP 50. Required: Box, 1 pcs, and Tissue paper, 2 pcs with a Wastage % of 10. Optional: Ribbon, 1 pcs. Modifier: Printed message card, 1 pcs, Price delta 25. Every gift box sold takes 1 box and 2.2 sheets. A ticked ribbon is taken too, at no charge. A ticked card is taken, the line comes to EGP 75, and the card prints under it on the receipt.
How the till asks for extras
On the till, a one-variant product with a recipe shows Made to order on its tile, and tap to customize when it has extras. Tapping or scanning it opens Customize: one tick per extra, its price delta or included beside it, and the Line total. Add to sale puts the line in the cart with its modifiers under it.
An item made in advance is different: its tile shows how many are in stock, like any stocked product, and it cannot be sold once they run out. It shows tap to add extras only when it has modifiers, and Customize then lists those modifiers alone. Without any, a tap puts it straight in the cart.
Recipes are copied to the tills, so this works if the internet drops during a shift; the server works out stock and totals again when the sale arrives.

Production and products made ahead
On a product's Recipe screen, tick Made in advance (keeps its own stock) for a variant you make ahead, then press Save “Made in advance”. To make a batch, pick a branch under On-hand at in Products, press Produce on the variant's row, type the Quantity, then Preview consumption and Confirm produce. Production uses only the required components, and the item then sells from its own stock. At the till such an item offers only its modifiers: a ticked modifier is charged, and its component is taken from stock along with the item. Optional extras are not offered for an item made ahead, because it was already made without them.
