Installing the PointLit Windows app
Download the installer from the PointLit Downloads page and run it on a computer with Windows 10 or later.
The installer is not signed yet, so Windows may show a SmartScreen warning: choose More info, then Run anyway. The app needs an internet connection the first time it opens your business, and the first sign-in needs an owner's or a manager's email address.
Install the app
- On the counter computer, open the Downloads page and press Download for Windows.
- Run the installer. If Windows says it protected your PC, choose More info, then Run anyway.
- Keep the suggested folder or choose another. The installer adds a shortcut to the desktop and the Start menu.
Start it for the first time
- Make sure the computer is online: the first start needs the internet.
- Set up your hardware walks through the printer, scale, cash drawer and scanner. Press Skip for any device you do not have; the till works without them.
- Sign in under Setting up this till with the email address of an owner or a manager. After that, staff sign in on this till with their usernames.
- The till now remembers your business and opens straight at it next time. Settings, then General, shows which business it is set up for.
Updating the app
The app does not update itself. When a new version is published on the Downloads page, wait until every queued sale has been sent, close the till with its own Close button, then download the installer again and run it over the old one. The new version replaces the old one in place. Settings, then About, shows the App version you are running.
Questions and answers
- Does the app need the internet to start?
- The first time, yes: the PointLit Windows app opens your business from PointLit's servers and you sign in. After that, a till that has opened your business online since PointLit's last update opens the register even with no internet, and keeps ringing cash and card sales into its queue until the line returns. A new computer needs the connection to open.
