Restaurant and café in PointLit: switching it on and Restaurant settings
Restaurant and café adds tables, open checks, kitchen tickets and split checks to PointLit, and it stays off until you switch it on.
You switch it on once, in Business settings, and then choose how table service works in Restaurant settings. Those settings apply to every shop of the business, and each shop chooses the order types it offers. While the switch is off nothing new shows anywhere, and the till works exactly as it does today.
Switch it on
- In Manage, open Business settings.
- Turn on Restaurant and café and press Save.
- Press Restaurant settings → under the switch. The same screen is also in the new Restaurant and café section of the Manage menu.
- In Manage, open Locations, edit each shop and tick the order types it offers under Order types at this shop: Dine-in, Counter, Takeaway and Delivery. A shop with none ticked keeps today's register.
What switching it on does
- Every active shop that has no dining area yet gets one, called Main hall, ready for its tables in the floor plan.
- A Waiter role is added to Roles, with what a waiter needs: open checks, send items to the kitchen, split checks and take the payment.
- The Restaurant and café section appears in the Manage menu, with Floor plan, Kitchen stations and printers and Restaurant settings, plus a screen for each extra you switch on.
- The restaurant's permissions appear in Roles, under Checks, Tables, Kitchen and Restaurant, so you can decide who may split a check, void a sent item or draw the floor plan.
Restaurant settings, panel by panel
- Service charge: switch it on, then type a percentage for each order type under Order types, or leave one empty for none. Tax on the service charge decides whether tax is worked out on it as on the items.
- Order types: the service charge rates, Ask for a table number at Charge (for guests who order at the counter and then sit), and the Delivery fee product a delivery's fee is rung as.
- Table service: Seats, Courses and their names in the order they are served (up to 10), Ask for the number of guests, Who may work on a table's check, A table is overdue after (minutes), and After sending, go back to the tables, for phones.
- Tips: take a tip at payment, with up to three suggested percentages.
- Pre-bill: a Footer line printed at the bottom of every pre-bill, up to 200 characters, and whether the suggested tips print on it.
- Kitchen screen: one view for every kitchen screen (Ticket grid, Course board, Pass view or Service lanes), or Each kitchen screen chooses.
The extras, each with its own switch
- Guest ordering by QR code: the guest menu and guest orders.
- Reservations and waitlist: bookings and the waitlist.
- Order-ready screen: the screen that shows ready orders.
- Delivery apps: orders from delivery apps.
- Pay at the table: guests pay by card from the table, once the business has its own payment account.
- Choice groups and item notes have their switch in Business settings, beside Restaurant and café, because a café can use them without table service.
Who may work on a table's check
Anyone lets every waiter add to any table. Anyone, after a warning that is recorded warns a waiter who opens another waiter's table and records the change if they go on. Only the table's own waiter refuses everyone else. A manager whose role may work on any check is never stopped, whichever you choose.
Who may change these settings
Switching Restaurant and café on or off and changing Restaurant settings need the permission to edit the business settings, which the Owner and Manager roles have as standard. Everyone with access sees the same settings in every shop of the business.
Questions and answers
- Does switching it on change how my shop sells today?
- Not until the shop has order types. A shop with no order type ticked under Locations keeps today's register. Once a shop has order types, its tills open on the order-type bar.
- Is Restaurant and café on every price plan?
- Yes. Restaurant and café and the extras under it can be switched on on every plan.
- What happens when I switch it off?
- Every restaurant option goes off with it and its screens are hidden, and nothing already recorded is deleted. Switch the extras on again after you switch it back on. PointLit will not switch it off while a check is still open or a delivery-app order is still in progress, so pay or void those first.
