Ringing a sale
The register is built for one hand and a queue. Most of a sale is one tap per item.
The register screen keeps the product list on one side and the cart on the other. Scanning or tapping a product puts it in the cart, and the cart keeps a running Subtotal, Tax and Total as you go. Nothing reaches the server until you take payment, so a basket you abandon costs nothing and leaves no trace to tidy up.
Adding items
A barcode scanner behaves like a keyboard, so a scan simply adds the item. For anything without a barcode, or a barcode that will not read, the product list is searchable.
- Scan the item, or tap it in the product list.
- Repeat the scan to add another of the same thing, or change the quantity on the cart line.
- Watch the Total as it builds. The cart shows Tax separately, and says Tax included where that is how the price is set.
- When the basket is right, press Complete sale to move on to payment.
Items that need a choice
Some products are made to order rather than picked off a shelf, and those are marked so on the register. Tapping one opens a Customize panel listing the add-ons for that item, with anything that carries no extra charge shown as included. Tick what the customer asked for and the line price updates as you go. An item that needs a choice will say so on its tile, so there is nothing to remember.
Putting a sale aside
A customer who has forgotten their wallet does not need to hold up the queue. A basket can be parked and picked up again on the same device, which leaves the register free for the next person. A parked basket lives only on that till: discarding one deletes it from the device, and because nothing was ever sent to the server there is nothing to undo and nothing to explain later.
If the register will not take a sale
A shop can be set up to require an open shift before any sale is rung. Where that is switched on and no shift is open, the register says so rather than quietly recording into a drawer nobody counted. Open the shift and carry on. Nothing about the basket is lost while you do it.
