The kitchen screen in PointLit: tickets, bump, recall and sold out

The kitchen screen shows the cooks every item sent from the checks, station by station, so they can start, finish and recall tickets without paper.

It runs in the web browser of a tablet or a computer, or on a till with the PointLit Windows app. A station shows its tickets on a screen when its Kind, in Kitchen stations and printers, is Kitchen screen, or Printer and kitchen screen.

Open the kitchen screen

  1. In Kitchen stations and printers, give at least one station the Kind Kitchen screen, or Printer and kitchen screen.
  2. On the kitchen's device, sign in as a member of staff with the Kitchen role: it opens straight on the kitchen screen. Any member whose role holds kitchen:view can also open it at /en/kds on your PointLit address.
  3. Choose this screen's station, or All stations. The screen remembers it, with its text size and its sound.
  4. Press Turn on sound so a new ticket is heard, and Full screen if you want. PointLit asks the device to keep its screen on while the kitchen screen is open.

Choose a view

  • Ticket grid: one card per ticket in the order they arrived, page by page, with the all-day counts on top.
  • Course board: columns for Held, To cook, Preparing and Ready.
  • Pass view: for the person who checks each order before it leaves the kitchen. It has one row per order and a column per station, and Order ready once every station is ready.
  • Service lanes: tables first, then counter, takeaway and delivery, then the items held until the waiter fires them.
  • In Restaurant settings, Kitchen screen view either fixes one view for every kitchen screen, or leaves it to each screen (Each kitchen screen chooses), with a switch in the screen's header.

Work a ticket

Tap a ticket's header to start it. Tap a line when that item is ready, and press Bump when the whole ticket is ready. Recall shows the last 10 bumped tickets and puts one back on the screen.

Each ticket shows how many minutes ago it was sent. It turns amber when it is late and red when it is very late; each station sets its own minutes in Kitchen stations and printers, 12 and 18 unless you change them. A rushed item says Cook first, an item held for later says Waits for FIRE, and a voided item says Stop cooking, with the reason and who voided it, until someone presses Got it.

A keyboard or a bump bar works too: a number picks a ticket, Enter bumps it and Backspace recalls.

All day and sold out

All day adds up each item not yet ready across the tickets on this screen, so the grill sees how many of one dish to make at once. Tap an item there and press Sold out to mark it sold out for today: every till then shows it as sold out and stops adding it, until the business day ends or someone presses Available again. Tickets already sent keep the item. Marking an item sold out needs the internet.

When the internet drops

On a till with the PointLit Windows app, the kitchen screen keeps working through the shop's hub till, so tickets still arrive over the shop's own network. In a web browser it says it is offline and keeps the tickets it already shows; new ones appear when the connection is back. The not-printed alert of a kitchen printer also shows under the screen's header, with Retry, Send to backup and Mark handled.

Questions and answers

Who can bump tickets and mark items sold out?
A member whose role holds kitchen:bump. As standard the Owner, Manager and Kitchen roles have it. A role with only kitchen:view sees the tickets but cannot bump them.
Do I still need kitchen printers?
No. Each station can be a kitchen screen only, a printer only, or both, so a kitchen can work from screens, from paper, or from both together.
What does Order ready in the Pass view do?
It tells the order-ready screen in the shop that a counter or takeaway order is ready to collect. In a shop with no expo station, an order counts as ready once every station has bumped it.
