Restaurant reports in PointLit: order types, tables, tips and waste

With Restaurant and café switched on, PointLit adds six restaurant reports, and new columns to the sales reports, the Day report and the Z-report.

The six reports are in Reports, under Sales, Staff and Stock, and they work like the other reports in PointLit. Tips are never counted as sales: they are kept apart and credited to the waiter of each check.

The six restaurant reports

  • Sales by order type (Sales): bills, covers, sales, returns, net, service charge, tax and the average bill for each order type, with Register sales for ordinary till sales. Show it By order type, or By day and order type.
  • Table performance (Sales): for each table and its area, the checks, covers, average party, average and median minutes seated, sales and sales per guest, with a second table By party size.
  • Staff tips (Staff): each waiter's tips in cash, by card, online and other, what was paid from a drawer or from a driver's bag, what is still owed, and tips returned by a void.
  • Changes after a pre-bill (Staff): every item voided, moved to another check or removed after a pre-bill was printed, with who changed it, its value and the reason.
  • Waste from voids (Stock): what voided items took from stock as waste, one row for each stock movement, at the cost the stock ledger recorded.
  • Pay at the table settlement (Sales): each payment guests made at the table, its tip, refunds and bill, the payments that do not match a sale, and a day-by-day summary of what the payment company owes. It shows only while pay at the table is switched on.

New columns in the existing reports

  • Sales summary: Service charge and Tips.
  • Sales by staff member: Covers, Average per guest and Tips. While Restaurant and café is on, it is titled Sales by waiter.
  • Daily summary, the till's Day report: Service charge, Tips collected, Tips paid out and Covers. Tips paid out counts tips paid from a drawer and from a driver's bag.
  • These columns show while Restaurant and café is switched on, or when the dates you chose hold a figure for them.

The Z-report

A shift's Z-report prints Service charge, Tips collected, Covers, Cash tips, Cash tips returned and Tips paid out, each only when it is not zero. Cash tips are counted in the drawer's expected cash, and tips paid out of the drawer come off it.

Pay out tips from the drawer

  1. With tips switched on, press Pay out tips on the till's shift bar.
  2. Choose the Waiter. If your role can open the Staff reports, the sheet shows what is still owed to them today, from Staff tips.
  3. Type the amount and press Record the tip payout. It is recorded on the drawer with the waiter's name, and it appears in Tips paid out.

Who sees these reports

The restaurant reports appear while Restaurant and café is switched on, to members whose role can open that area of Reports: Sales, Staff or Stock. They are not on the Free plan, and there the payout sheet does not show what is still owed.

Questions and answers

Are tips counted as sales?
No. Tips are kept apart from sales and from the service charge. They are not in the sales total, and each tip is credited to the waiter of its check, which is what Staff tips adds up.
Why does a split check count its guests only once?
Covers are taken from the check before it was split, so the guests at a table are counted once, however many parts the check was paid in.
Can tips be paid out of a driver's cash bag?
Yes. In Driver cash, Pay out tips pays a waiter from a driver's bag. It counts in Tips paid out at the shop where it was paid, and Staff tips shows it under Paid from a driver's bag.
