When the internet drops
The till keeps selling while it stays open, and sends the sales when the line comes back.
A shop should not stop because a router did. If the connection drops while a shift is open, the till keeps ringing sales, keeps each one in a queue on that till, and sends them in order when the line comes back. If the till has to restart, it opens the register again with no internet, as long as it has opened your business online since PointLit's last update; a till that has not, such as a new computer, cannot open until the line is back. You do not have to switch anything on, and you do not have to stop the queue.
How you know
The register shows its connection state rather than leaving you to guess. When the line drops it shows Offline, and as sales accumulate it shows how many are waiting to be sent. When the connection returns it shows that it is syncing. Nothing needs to be pressed at any point in that sequence.
What still works
Ringing a sale and taking payment in cash or by card both work offline, which is the part that matters with somebody standing in front of you. A completed sale is saved on the till and queued, and the register tells you it has been queued rather than pretending it has been sent. Stock figures on the till can fall behind sales rung at another till until both are back online.
What waits for the connection
Anything that reads across the whole business rather than this till needs the line back: choosing a customer (and with it loyalty points and on-account sales), reports, the management screens, and stock at other branches. These are not usually things you need mid-queue, which is why the split falls where it does.
When the line comes back
The queued sales are sent automatically, in order, and the indicator clears once the till is level again. Do not try to re-ring a sale that was taken offline because you cannot see it on another device yet: it is queued, and ringing it again is how one sale becomes two. If the indicator stays stuck with sales waiting for longer than the connection has been back, report it to support@pointlit.com rather than working around it.
