The order-ready screen in PointLit: show guests when their order is ready
The order-ready screen shows guests the numbers of their counter and takeaway orders, first under Preparing, then under Ready once the kitchen has finished.
It runs in the web browser of a TV, a TV stick or a tablet, and nobody signs in on it. Each TV opens it through its own display link, which you can revoke at any time.
Switch it on
- In Restaurant settings, switch on Order-ready screen.
- Choose its Language: Arabic, English, or Arabic and English.
- Set Remove a ready order after (minutes). It is 10 unless you change it.
- Switch on Show guests' first names if you want them on screen. Off, the screen shows order numbers only.
- Press Save.
Put it on a TV with a code
- On the TV's web browser, open pointlit.app/tv. It shows a 6-digit code that works once, for 10 minutes.
- On a computer, go to Manage, then Restaurant and café, then Display links, and press Pair a TV.
- Type the Code on the TV, a Name such as Counter TV, and choose the Shop, then press Pair.
- The TV opens the order-ready screen by itself.
Or open it with a link
On the same screen, Make the link gives a display link for one shop. It is shown once: copy it, or scan its QR code with the TV stick or the tablet, and open it in the TV's web browser. PointLit keeps only a fingerprint of the link and cannot show it again.
What guests see
- Two columns, Preparing and Ready, with each order number in three digits, such as 042.
- A number that has just moved to Ready is marked Just ready for 30 seconds, and a bar shows how long it stays.
- A ready number leaves the screen as soon as the order is collected, or after the minutes you set.
- Only counter and takeaway orders appear: a waiter carries a table's order, and a driver collects a delivery.
- For a sound when an order is ready, a member of staff presses Turn on the chime once on each TV. The TV remembers it.
When an order counts as ready
An order moves to Ready when the person at the Pass view of the kitchen screen presses Order ready. In a shop with no expo station, it moves once every station has bumped its items. Collected on the Pass view takes it off the screen.
Revoke a link
In Display links, each link shows its shop, the day it was made and when it was last seen. Revoke closes the screen on that TV, which then says the link was revoked. This cannot be undone: make a new link, or pair the TV again.
Questions and answers
- Who can make display links and pair TVs?
- A member whose role holds restaurant:display or settings:manage. As standard the Owner and Manager roles can.
- Does the TV need a PointLit account?
- No. The display link opens the screen without signing in. It shows order numbers only, with guests' first names if you switched them on, so give the link to the TV and to no one else.
- What happens if the TV loses the internet?
- It says Waiting for connection and keeps trying by itself. The numbers come back as soon as it reaches PointLit again.
